From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On 04-23-2012 [or 04-22-2012, maybe? —Ed.], at approximately 4:00 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office received a call from a citizen reporting a man fell out of a boat in the Eel River and the boat was still running, however was traveling in circles.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Boating Deputies responding to the scene which was near Cock Robin Island and Petrazzini Boat Ramp, Loleta. The owner of the boat, identified as Bart Mace, 37 years old, from Fortuna, had swam to shore and was cold, but safe. The deputies launched a Sheriff’s boat and were able to retrieve Mace’s boat and return it to him. Mace had just obtained the boat and was trying it out when he took a sharp turn and thrown out. He was cold, but in good health.
