Humboldt CO. Sheriff’s Press Release:

On 08-21-2012, approximately 1:00 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office received a call regarding a man smashing car windows in the 2000 block of Fern Street, Eureka. When deputies arrived in the area they saw the suspect, who was carrying a large sledge hammer, being chased by several citizens. Deputies joined the foot chase telling the suspect to stop. The suspect, who was wearing a black and grey motorcycle helmet, fled from the deputies through a car port in the 3700 block of T Street, Eureka. The foot pursuit continued into the woods behind the residence where deputies caught the suspect. The suspect dropped the sledgehammer during the chase, however deputies later recovered it.

The suspect was identified as Cole Christopher Foos, 27 years old from Eureka. Deputies made contact with the 22 year old female victim who told them she was visiting a residence in the 2000 block of Redwood Street, Eureka. The victim told the deputies Foos came to the residence she was at driving a beat up spray painted blue car and parked blocking the driveway. She had never seen him before. Foos exited the car and walked up to the door and rang the door bell. When she
answered the door he asked her for water. She provided him with a bucket to obtain water from a hose.

Foos got angry that there was no water in the bucket and began yelling at her. She closed and locked her front door, and Foos began ringing the doorbell again, demanding water and cursing at her angrily. She then saw Foos start breaking the windows to her vehicle that was parked in the driveway with a sledgehammer. After he broke several of her car windows, he entered her car and began ransacking her car and throwing items onto the ground. She screamed for help out of an open window while telling him to stop.

Foos then got into his car and drove off.

A 40 year old male witness was visiting his parents on McKeown Street , which is a block away from Redwood Street, and saw Foos come into his parents backyard wearing a motorcycle helmet and jump the fence into a neighbor’s yard. He and several neighbors chased him until deputies arrived.

After the deputies caught Foos he told them deputies he was upset with the female victim’s attitude after he asked her for water, so that is why he did what he did. Deputies located property stolen from the victim’s vehicle, besides a small amount of tar heroin and controlled prescription tablets in Foos possession. He was arrested for burglary, vandalism, resisting arrest, and possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. His bail is set at $50,000.00.
