UPDATE 4:48 P.M.: KMUD is reporting the fire as contained.

————————————————————————————

Firefighters rushing to a blaze in the Fruitland Ridge area have the ironic knowledge that their volunteer fire department could soon be closed for lack of funds.  According to KMUD, (check last night’s newscast) the measure which was to add a $60 parcel tax to fund a special fire district in the Fruitland area failed by less than two percent of the 2/3’s majority needed. (Two other areas, Briceland and Bridgeville, approved the fire districts. Palo Verde and Fruitland Ridge fire districts failed.)
