A lighted holiday parade wound from Redway to Garberville yesterday evening. Come along with us and enjoy the sights and sounds of the event. You might try imaging the following poem sung to Do You Hear What I Hear as you read along. In fact, for a little holiday silliness, sing along yourself.

Imagine you been browsing in small shops. You have some bags rustling at your fingertips with just the right gift for a loved one. You’re nibbling on a delicate short bread cookie or perhaps a rich chocolate brownie from the bake sale. There a mom, holding a baby and smiling, presides over a table heaping with offerings prepared by busy hands.

Said Santa Claus to the little child,
“Do you see what I see
Way off up the road, little child?
Do you see what I see?

Some lights, some lights, sparkling and bright
Shining in the Southern Humboldt night
Shining in the Southern Humboldt night.”

Said Santa Claus to the smiling elf,
“Let us join in the bright parade
With all the lit up floats, smiling elf.
Let us join in the bright parade.”

With lights, with lights, sparkling and bright
Shining in the cool Humboldt night
Shining in the cool Humboldt night.”

Said the mother to her little child,

“Do you hear what I hear

Ringing through the dark, little child?

“Do you hear what I hear?

A song, a song, winding through the trees
With voices as big as the sea
With voices as big as the sea.”

The folks, the folks laughing in the cold

Riding on the floats bright and bold

Which have been decked with white, red and gold

Said Santa to the people standing there,

Listen to what I say.

Tis a time for joy, people everywhere!

Listen to what I say.

For joy, for joy, brightening up the night

Will ease our hearts and we’ll unite

Enjoying this laughter and light.

May your holidays be merry and bright!
