Arcata Police Department press release:

On 9/15/2014 [9/14/2014] at about 1:05am, officers from the Arcata Police Department were dispatched to a burglary in progress at a residence in the 500 block of F Street.

Upon the arrival of officers minutes later, a male subject was located passed out on a chair on the front porch of the residence. The front door of the residence had been forced open and items belonging to the subject, identified as Florida resident Steven Thomas Conklin (age 21), were located just inside the front door.  After a brief struggle, he was detained in handcuffs.

As officers conducted a protective sweep of the house to ensure no one else was inside, a male subject ran from the rear of the residence and over a fence and into the 500 block of G Street.  The male subject, a 16 year old juvenile, was located a short time later hiding in shrubbery.

The owner of the residence was not home at the time of the incident, which was reported to police by a neighbor.

Conklin was taken into custody and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for PC 459 - Burglary and PC 148(a)(1) - Resisting, Obstructing or Delaying the duties of an officer.

The juvenile male was transported to his residence where he was placed into the custody of his parents.  A copy of the report will be forwarded to Juvenile Probation for their review.
