Opinions differ on the artistic merit of these mysterious, multi-colored paint splatters, which now adorn Highway 101 in numerous spots through Humboldt and Mendocino counties. But officials with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) wish the guerrilla Picasso would find a new canvas.

Caltrans spokesman (and former KSLG DJ) Myles Cochrane gave us the heads-up this morning:

“The northbound bridge on Highway 101 at the north end of Rio Dell was recently hit hard by those elusive paint vandals, making it very difficult to see the center stripe on the road,” he wrote in an email. “This is a definite safety concern.”

So be careful, folks.
