Few things get Humboldt hearts racing like the sight of salmon making it. For that reason, we would like to start your day with the pleasurable news that California state fish biologists recently counted 500 Chinook salmon going up Mad River – and took this epic video of said event. Counting and filming occurred at high tide at a shallow riffle near where U.S. Hwy. crosses the Mad River on Oct. 14 about six “river miles” up from the ocean.

Video shot by Susan Leroy, state biologist. Enjoy! (h/t @MSidKelly)
