UPDATE, 4:37 p.m.: The Eureka Police Department has issued a followup press release on today’s proceedings:

On 10/27/15 at about 12:45 p.m., an Officer with the Eureka Police Department spotted a black Kia sedan traveling east near 7th and K Streets. The Officer knew a black Kia sedan had recently been reported stolen so he ran the license plate. Dispatchers confirmed that the license plate returned to Kia sedan, reported stolen on 10/25/15 from Eureka.

The Officer followed the sedan to the 1500 block of 5th Street, where backup officers also arrived. Officers initiated a high risk traffic stop and detained all three occupants without further incident. The two passengers were questioned and released from the scene.

The driver, Sherrie Bazan, 33 of Eureka, was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving on a suspended license, probation violation, possession of Methamphetamine, and a misdemeanor drug possession warrant.

Three people were just detained at gunpoint in front of Eureka’s Li’l Red Lion nightclub, after Eureka police spotted a stolen car driving past them.

The car — a black Kia Optima — had been reported stolen out of the Myrtletown area on Sunday.

Captain Steve Watson tells the Outpost’s Andrew Goff, at the scene, that officers had deemed this a “high-risk” stop, but that the three occupants of the vehicle were detained without incident.
