UPDATE, 3:10 p.m.: Lt. Wayne Hanson fills us in a bit on this incident.

As of 3 p.m., the man who ran from the cops is still at large. Hanson said that the office will soon put out a press release that will identify him.

Why did a sheriff’s deputy draw his weapon? Apparently, the man who ran was still on scene, sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, when the deputy first arrived. When the cop showed up, he reached underneath the seat. The deputy told him to make his hands visible; the man, instead, shouted an obscenity and carried on fiddling under the seat. The officer drew his weapon, and the suspect booked.

When they searched his car, afterwards, officers found 5 grams of heroin packaged for sale.

Police are currently searching a south Broadway neighborhood after one person fled from a sheriff’s office deputy.

Earlier this hour, the Sheriff’s Office was called to a report of a fight in the neighborhood, near the News Channel 3 building and the Country Club Market, according to Lt. Wayne Hanson. When a deputy arrived, one of the alleged combatants fled through the market’s parking lot to parts unknown. The other two people at the scene were held at gunpoint and eventually taken into custody. Both have since been released.

Five Sheriff’s Office units responded to search for the fled subject. The California Highway Patrol and a Fish & Wildlife officer assisted. Officers are searching two vehicles associated with the detained men, according to the Outpost’s Andrew Goff. An additional Sheriff’s Office unit arrived moments ago with an all-terrain vehicle in tow.

We will update when we have more information.
