UPDATE, 9:29 a.m.: From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Thursday, October 27, 2016 at about 3:30 a.m. Humboldt County Deputy Sheriffs were dispatched to the south end of Hoopa for a report of a subject having some type of medical issue and shooting from his residence.

After several hours on scene, the subject confronted deputies resulting in an officer involved shooting. The suspect was taken into custody. Further information will be provided in future media release.

UPDATE, 8:13 a.m.: The man is now in custody after wandering down the driveway, armed. Deputies on scene have reported an “officer-involved shooting,” although it appears the person was not injured.

They report he is currently in a patrol vehicle and trying to kick out the windows, according to scanner traffic.

A SWAT team ordered to the incident has been canceled.

There is a large law enforcement presence in Hoopa at the moment, as officers attempt to deal with a barricaded person who has been firing shots since the early morning hours.

According to scanner traffic, police on scene are requesting a full closure of Highway 96 at Boozer Lane, near downtown Hoopa. The Sheriff’s Office has been at the scene of the incident since at least 4 a.m., after a neighbor reported hearing shots from the residence.
