From the California Highway Patrol:

On February 10, 2019, at approximately 2050 hours, a male driver was driving his 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer southbound on US-101, south of Benbow Drive.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed his vehicle to travel off the west roadway edge of US-101. The Chevrolet Trailblazer then traveled back to the east across both lanes of US-101 and off the east roadway edge. The Chevrolet Trailblazer then collided with a tree. The male driver succumbed to his injuries on scene.

This collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Garberville Area office. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol impairment are a factor in this collision.

The following agencies responded to the scene and assisted with this incident; Garberville Cal-Fire, Redway Volunteer Fire Department, Cal-Trans, City Ambulance of Eureka, Humboldt County Coroner’s Office.
