A Willow Creek man is facing drug charges in Dare County North Carolina after authorities discovered a multitude of illegal drugs in his car during a COVID-19-related traffic stop on Saturday.

WRAL reports that 61-year-old David Warren Raney was stopped in the town of Manns Harbor, North Carolina at a mandatory coronavirus checkpoint for all vehicles entering the county.

While at the checkpoint, sheriff’s deputies reportedly smelled a marijuana-like odor wafting from Raney’s vehicle.

Upon searching his vehicle, deputies reportedly found approximately 13 pounds of marijuana, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, ecstasy and LSD.

Raney is being held on a $20,000 secured bond for marijuana trafficking and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance.

On April 4, 2020, at approximately 2 p.m., a Dare County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and Investigator working the Manns Harbor CheckPoint stopped an individual from California trying to enter the county. During that time, the Deputies smelled an odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 13 pounds of Marijuana, an amount of Cocaine, Psilocybin Mushrooms, Ecstasy and LSD. An amount of US Currency was also seized during the encounter. Dare County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division came out to assist with the case.

David Warren Raney, M/61, 40 Block of George Lane, Willow Creek, CA 95573, was arrested for (F) Trafficking in Marijuana and (F) Maintaining a Vehicle for a controlled substance. Raney is being held on a $20,000 secured bond.
