Saturday Lowdown: Much Music in Arcata

Like music? Here is what specifically Arcata is offering Saturday night:

  • Formerly local singer-songwriter Josephine Johnson is seducing L.A. ears these days, but returns home to reconnect with y’all Saturday night at the Arcata Playhouse in a show that also features Electro Saloon and live art by Matt Beard. She’s also raising money for Food For People, Humboldt’s Food bank where she used to work. Click play on the video above for a quick “Hello” from Josephine and more details on the show.
  • Ryan Montbleau and his longtime band were no strangers to the HumBrews stage but on this trip the singer-songwriter will be “a band of one.” Expect some song explanations.
  • Each Humboldt week needs a reggae show. Reggae veteran Sammy Dread fills the slot this week. Dread was at the peak of his fame in the late ’70s/early ‘80s. He’ll be at the Jambalaya Saturday night.

Hate music? There’s plenty else out there:

  • Humboldt’s marijuana community will share green knowledge at the Mateel Community Center during the Ganjier Spring Kickoff.
  • Humboldt Roller Derby will plow through some lesser teams during a double header at Redwoods Acres
  • Humboldt V-Week continues at the D Street Neighborhood Center with the one of several annual performances of The Vagina Monologues
