Friday Lowdown: J Boog, Sports Stars, Symphony and Soul

This Humboldt Friday will leave only boring people bored:

  • The highest profile human cluster of the night takes place out at Blue Lake Casino where Compton-born world music star J Boog makes his Humboldt return. We are told tickets are still available if you’re in the market. Sample the smoothness in the clip below.
  • The 2015 Humboldt Crabs season kicks off tomorrow meaning tonight is the team’s annual preseason dinner at the Arcata Community Center where you can meet this year’s squad and acquire all your super fan gear. The players will seem larger than life to your young ones. Get ‘em a hat.
  • Humboldt’s refined crowd can dress to the nines for an evening at the Arkley Center. The Eureka Symphony performs its season finale with pieces by composers that we’ve never heard of. Ambitious!
  • Soul Night co-MVP Matt Jackson is spinning solo tonight out at the Logger Bar. Expect sweat.
  • Local raconteur and Lapatina Jeff DeMark gives his quasi-annual performance of his Writing My Way Out of Adolescence one man show at Richard’s Goat. The piece chronicles Jeff’s trials growing up curious and the event will help raise money for a new movie screen for the Goat.
