Friday Lowdown: Prince, Royal Jelly Jive, Hunks, Standup (Live)

Man, this is the most packed Humboldt Friday LoCO can remember in awhile. Let’s just rattle a few of these gatherings off quick-like (with accompanying YouTube videos below to engage more of your senses): 

  • Savage Henry is hosting its first ever Arcata Playhouse standup comedy show with Clare O’Kane snagging the headlining slot.
  • Abs, pecs, buns and tans will be on display at Bear River Casino where the beefcakes of Hunks: The Show take the stage.
  • We first got to know Royal Jelly Jive when they were featured in an episode of the Humboldt Live Sessions. They bring their regal jam to HumBrews tonight.
  • Prince is dead! Long live Prince. Purple Rain is as over-the-top as you remember and will be screened as a memorial to the music legend at the Arcata Theatre Lounge tonight. 

And that’s barely scratching the proverbial surface! Dell’Arte students are wrapping up their academic year with their Thesis Festival out in Blue Lake (runs through Sunday). Somewhat similarly, aspiring burlesque stars will strip down during Va Va Voom’s Bootcamp Graduation taking place at The Palm Lounge at the Eureka Inn. Oh, and Wild Souls Ranch holds it biggest annual fundraiser, the Silver Spurs Gala, down at the Fortuna River Lodge.
