(VIDEO) Friday Lowdown: Entrust Thy Booty to Con Brio

Con Brio own the ATL tonight, thank you

Fine. You have earned your party pass. After another week attempting to ignore depressing news alerts buzzing on your cell phone, thankfully your Humboldt Friday is high on distracting fabulousness:

  • San Francisco-based R&B soul outfit Con Brio have been building a reputation as a live band to be reckoned with based in no small part on the charisma of frontman Ziek McCarter. No denying, dude’s a star. Check them out in the clip below then consider handing your butt over to them Friday night at the Arcata Theatre Lounge when they share the stage with local funksters Object Heavy.
  • Easier than trying to fool U.S Customs agents, take a short trip to Cuba by way of the Arcata Playhouse. Timbata are a sextet performing Cuban dance music styles including son, salsa, songo, timba, batá, mozambique, rumba, descarga, and Latin jazz.
  • Glam! Wham! Thank you, Jam. The latest edition of Club Triangle at The Jam carries an ‘80s glam theme for you to get lost in.
  • “M” to the “A” to the “S” to the “K.” Humboldt Roller Derby promises a colorful fundraiser at The Siren’s Song Tavern in the form of its Mardi Gras Masquerade. Don your mask and pump your fist to the sounds of Humboldt’s hardest working cover band, The Undercovers.

No excuse for sadness, he said! More on those shows and more in your Lowdown listings below. —Andrew Goff
