Eureka Symphony Holiday Concert

Arkley Center For The Performing Arts

The Eureka Symphony Holiday Concert will be performed at the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts on December 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. Music Director and Conductor Carol Jacobson has chosen selections appropriate to the festive season. Sponsor of the concert is Tri Counties Bank. Acclaimed English composers Ralph Vaughan Williams and Philip Lane provide works to celebrate the Christmas season. Vaughn Williams’ “Fantasia on Greensleeves” is familiar as the familiar Christmastime hymn “What Child is This?” His “First Nowell Suite” will also be performed by the Symphony and a local choir under the direction of Robert Keiber. Soloists will be Fiona Ryder and James Gadd. “Twas the Night Before Christmas” was set to music by Philip Lane and will be narrated by Steve Cole. Adding a note of contemporary whimsy is “Christmas at the Movies,” a medley of holiday film scores with memorable songs and themes from such favorites as Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, The Polar Express, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Audience members are encouraged to join in the finale, singing Christmas carols with the orchestra. Concerts are preceded by the popular free Musical Notes talk at 7 p.m. Concert Master Terrie Baune and HSU Music Department Accompanist John Chernoff explore the music and the life of concert composers with insight, wit, and keyboard flourishes. Make the popular Holiday Concert part of your holiday tradition with family and friends—don festive apparel, hear the joyous sounds from our own excellent orchestra and local choir members, and join them in singing your favorite carols. Children 12 and under are free, when accompanied by a paid adult. Full-time students with i.d. can purchase student rush tickets at the door for $10, one hour before curtain. Groups wishing to attend together might consider the new Heavenly Discount coupons, 10 seats for $110, also available for redemption at the door one hour before curtain. Coupons can be exchanged for best seats available, excluding the loge. Tickets are also on sale for a 4-concert package of remaining concerts. The 4-concert discount is 15% and expires on December 5.
