Eureka Symphony Season Opening Concert

Arkley Center For The Performing Arts

Eureka Symphony’s Music Director and Conductor Carol Jacobson has taken the theme, ‘Experience the Greats’, to heart by programming renowned composers and exceptional guest artists for the new 2015-2016 season. The opening concerts feature brothers David and Aaron Requiro on cello and violin in Brahms’ Double Concerto in A minor. These highly acclaimed musicians hold faculty positions in Colorado and Arizona, are members of prestigious chamber orchestras, and regularly play in venues from New York to Monterey. A work by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will open the concert. Mozart was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era, composing over 600 works. The Symphony No. 39 is the first of a set of three symphonies that he composed in rapid succession during the summer of 1788, shortly before his early death at age 36. He may never have heard the piece performed. Concerts are preceded by the popular free Musical Notes talk at 7 p.m. Concert Master Terrie Baune and HSU Music Department Accompanist John Chernoff explore the featured music and their composers with insight, wit, and keyboard flourishes.
