Arcata Police Chief Tom Chapman came by the KSLG studio to talk about his “Not In Our Town” Letter. His letter addressed racism in our community and the denouncing of the White Supremacist movement. He and Sabina touch on a variety of subjects concerning prejudice and what it means to be a person of color in this community as well as how people can help in reporting racism when they see it. Chief Chapman also speaks about the Fair and Impartial police training set to take place this month. The training is an opportunity for the Arcata Police Department and surrounding law enforcement to come together and talk about racism while addressing concerns of possible bias policing.

Nikki talked to local artist/carver extraordinaire Mike Craghead about being a part of Food Network's “Halloween Wars Season 7” , and how it feels to carve pumpkins in front of judges and cameras. Frank Turner comes to The Warfield in San Francisco Sunday Jan 29th with The Sleeping Souls, Arkells, Will Varley, and John K. Samson. He talked to Nikki about fighting for artistic integrity, memorable moments on his tour, why he ultimately decided to write “The Road Beneath Your Feet” , one of his weirdest tattoos, and what you can expect at his shows.

HSU's Center Arts and KSLG are bringing some exciting artists up to Humboldt County. Sunday October 23rd, black-metal artists Deafheaven will be performing at the Kate Buchanan Room. Nikki got to chat with vocalist George Clark about identity, how to keep a screaming voice in tip-top shape, and pictimagery.

A fascinating and funny mix of spot-on impressions and clever cutting edge comedy, Ian Harris' act has landed him coveted appearances on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE!, COMEDY CENTRAL, as well as his own hour TV special “CRITICAL & THINKING”. In anticipation for his performance Saturday April 2 at the Arcata Playhouse, Ian chatted with Nikki about bigfoot, MMA, and demented ELMO.

A couple Humboldt Roller Derby Sapling came to the studio to talk with Kim: Wendy Witte aka “Natural Disaster,” and Lauren Gagnon aka “Popper,” accompanied by Popper's mom, appropriately named “Momma Popper.” They discussed the confidence they've built within themselves since they joined HRD, talk about their favorite memories on the track, and share with Kim how HRD has helped them grow during some of the most crucial years of their adolesence. Sasha Elizabeth and Ken Hamik came to the Slug Studio to talk with Kim about CommUnity PRIDE & Peace, a project with involves any and all community members who would like to help create solutions to issues and problems within our community, and beyond. Their first fundraising event is Friday, March 18, and will help bring funds into the project, so they can continue putting back into their community through events, clean ups, and much more. Kim Hodges interviews Shannon Townsend, a volunteer for Humboldt Spay Neuter Network and Companion Animal Foundation.
