$2,660 - $3,735/mo. ($15.35 - $21.55/hr.) R116 Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the pay range. This is a full-time position in the University Center Business Office with excellent benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage; CalPERS retirement, life insurance, voluntary pre-tax health and dependent care reimbursement accounts and vacation, holidays, and paid sick leave.

About: The University Center Business Office is located on the 3rd floor of the University Center (UC) building at Humboldt State University. The primary objective of the Business Office is to provide the business infrastructure necessary to support the diverse programs, services, and commercial operations of the University Center. Our core functions include managing finances, accounting, human resources, information technology, and risk management. Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Vault Cashier is responsible for preparing bank deposits, counting vaults, making change, receipting, cashiering duties and other Business Office support duties as needed.
Duties: This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide cashiering functions, bank deposits, prepare cash bags for cash registers, maintain the safe room including daily reconciliation and balancing of the vault
• Provide daily courier functions to all outlying University Center departments to pick up daily deposits and replenish change funds as needed
• Count money and other monetary instruments, investigate outages and inform department managers/supervisors of discrepancies
• Prepare deposit summaries from various University Center departments
• Daily data entry of cash receipts and monies collected in accounting software
• Maintain cash control procedures for cashiering, safes and petty cash
• Assist with training cashiers for proper cash-handling and safekeeping skills
• Conduct audits of outlying change funds
• Perform general office duties
• Perform other duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience:

Equivalent to one year of clerical accounting or financial record-keeping experience OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. Must have strong cash-handling skills and general experience in bookkeeping (data entry, reconciling, etc.), and a demonstrated work history showing how the knowledge and abilities were acquired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices. In addition to the duties listed above, ability to review data for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to established standards; ability to utilize computerized systems and programs including Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to follow directions, interpret and apply written rules and regulations. Ability to compute and record figures rapidly and accurately and identify, trace and correct errors, exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment in responding to others, and maintain files and records. Must have positive attitude and ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers in a team-oriented environment. Ability to work effectively in a climate characterized by heavy traffic loads, shifting priorities, and the need to balance multiple tasks. Possess an energy level capable of working in a high-volume, fast paced environment for extended periods of time. Ease in dealing with a diverse population, including students and staff. Ability to operationalize sustainability concepts (economy, society, environment) into all aspects of performing job duties.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time; strength and mobility to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds. Have a minimum of average physical agility abilities as there is bending and maneuvering to retrieve monies from various money vaults. Must have manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range, and clear verbal communication.
Special Conditions of Employment: Strong customer service orientation. Speak, read, write, and understand English. Occasional layoff or reduced work hours due to lack of work; these periods generally fall on semester breaks and summer session. Valid California Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to our insurance underwriters. Must comply with neat grooming standards and present a professional appearance.
