Weed Feed: Company Aiming to Be ‘Whole Foods of Cannabis’ Receives $22 Million to Expand 87,000-Square-Foot Mendo Facility

Flow Kana, the San Francisco-based company that recently opened its 87,000-square-foot “cannabis institute” in Mendocino County, has received an additional $22 million in investments to expand the weed-processing facility located on the former Fetzer Vineyards property.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that the company has now received $50 million from investors since it was founded in 2015, with $15 million of its new funds coming from the New York-based private equity firm Gotham Green Partners.

These large investments could mark a major power shift in California’s marijuana industry, where growers will look to big business to handle their processing, packaging and distribution needs.

On its website, Flow Kana says it plans to create a “model of sustainable agriculture” and become the center for the Emerald Triangle’s “artisan” weed scene.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that Flow Kana’s co-founder and CEO Michael Steinmetz says he envisions his business will one day be “the Whole Foods of cannabis.”
