What did I learn today? Apart from the apparent — here and here — I learned how Humboldt State structures AJAX calls to its contact database. I learned that Brazil really loves the John Butler Trio, and seems to have widespread access to high-speed Internet. I learned that you really have to underscore that you’re looking for music tracks in the iTunes database, not music videos. I learned that someone’s suing Gabriel’s in Eureka over a scuffle sparked by a salad’s Parmesan levels.

At lunch, I learned that Victarion Greyjoy has some kind of crazed beef against the maesters.

But what I’m really looking forward to what I’m going to learn tonight, when KHSU tackles the subject of Assembly Bill 109, commonly referred to as prison realignment. This measure, which was designed to save the state a whole bunch of money, will, among other things, transfer a whole bunch of convicted criminals out of prison and into county jails. It’s going to affect law enforcement in California in all kinds of ways, and it’s going to have a huge impact on county budgets all over the state.

All in all, it hasn’t gotten near enough coverage.

Cynthia Chandler, director of the Oakland-based legal clinic Justice Now, joins Thursday Night Talk guest host Marcy Burstiner to talk about realignment. That’s on Thursday Night Talk tonight at 7 p.m. — 90.5 FM around the Humboldt Bay area, at other frequencies elsewhere, and streaming live at khsu.org.
