Authorities have been unsuccessful in locating HSU student Jian Kang.

From the Sheriff’s office:

“The search for the missing Humboldt State University student, Jian Kang, 21 years old, from the City of Renqiu, Hebei Province China has been scaled back by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. Kang was swept away by the Trinity River at Tish Tang Campground (Hoopa) Sunday afternoon 06-19-2011 around 4:30 p.m.

“Since that time, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Special Services Unit has coordinated multiple searches of the Trinity River. These searches included the use of aircraft, boats and shoreline patrols in an attempt to locate Kang. The search encompassed several miles of river from the point last seen to down river locations. Sheriff’s Deputies will continue periodically check the river in the event Kang’s body were to surface.

“Family members of Kang’s may arrive in Humboldt County within the next 5 to 7 days. The Sheriff’s Office has been coordinating with Humboldt State University to assist the family upon their arrival.”
