It’s been a marathon session chez Supes today. Your correspondent hasn’t caught all of it, but he did catch two matters of import. First, the board voted 5-0 to sign on to a letter to the California Citizen’s Redistricting Commission asking that Humboldt continue to be lumped in with other Northern California coastal communities when it comes to congressional and legislative districts. A couple of citizens spoke in support of Redding madman Bruce Ross’s insane machinations to get us hitched to his inland hellhole instead, but it was nothing doing.
Likewise, it was a unanimous vote in favor of granting a conditional use permit for the Hummingbird Healing Center, a Myrtletown medical marijuana dispensary that has already gone a couple of go-rounds with county government. Looking at Hummingbird’s new application, which included plans for a beefy security presence, the supes bucked the staff report Planning Commission and gave the dispensary the green light.
