UPDATE: 4/11: Mendocino Co. Sheriff reports:

On 4-9-2012 an autopsy was conducted on the decedent.  The decedents injuries were consistent with being submerged in the ocean for several days and eventually being located along the rocky shoreline.

On 4-10-2012 the decedent’s identity was positively identified as Daniel Gregory Kolb who had been transient from the State of Colorado.

Mendocino County Sheriffs Detectives are continuing the investigation into the decedent’s death.

Mendocino Co. Sheriff’s Press Release: On 4-7-2012 at approximately 1345 Mendocino County Sheriffs Deputies and Westport Fire were dispatched to the North Side of the Juan Creek coast-side where the unidentified decedent had been washed to shore and wedged into the rocks.

Emergency Personnel removed the decedent from the rocky terrain (approximately twenty feet from the Pacific Ocean)and the decedent was transported to Chapel by the Sea Mortuary.

Deputy sheriffs examined the decedent and found him to be a male adult.  It appeared the decedent had been in the ocean for several days prior to washing ashore.

A forensic exam is being conducted this morning.

The Mendocino County Sheriffs Office is continuing the investigation into the identity of the decedent and the circumstances around the death.

More information will be released once the identity of the decedent has been established.
