California Highway Patrol Press Release:

On August 18, 2012, at 1:07 pm, a 2005 Infinity G35 was traveling on US-101 Southbound, just south of Garberville, California.  As the vehicle entered a left curve in the roadway, the vehicle traveled off the west roadway edge and down a cliff, where it came to rest on its wheels approximately 150 feet west of US-101.  The vehicle subsequently fully engulfed in flames at its point of rest.  The driver, whose identity is pending positive identification, suffered fatal injuries a result of this collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  There were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the collision.  The driver was wearing a seatbelt and DUI as a factor is not being ruled out.  US-101 at the scene of the collision remained open while the collision was being investigated.
 
Calfire, Garberville Fire, Redway Fire, City Ambulance of Eureka, Humboldt County Sheriff Department, Caltrans, and the Humboldt County Coroner’s office responded to the scene and assisted.  The California Highway Patrol Garberville Area office is investigating this collision.
