Adding to the ever growing list of lists that list Humboldt in them, our latest random blog nod comes courtesy of real estate site Estately. Using an irrefutably scientific “formula based on marijuana availability and legality, number of stores selling hemp, local counter-culture icons, tie-dye availability, hippie festivals, progressive government, intensity of Occupy protests, and a Facebook poll,” the site determined that Arcata is the 17th most suitable haven for hippies … out of 17 cities ranked. Hmm.

Estately notes that “the scent of patchouli oil is so strong in Arcata that it can be smelled from space” (more sound science).
