Dayum, this week’s Humboldt Approved was a slugfest! — both the metro and rural divisions came down to the wire. In the end though, there could only be one! (Well, two.)
Thus, it is our honor to bestow the LoCO seal of approval on Babe’s Pizza and Pasta in Cutten (which just edged out Big Louie’s Pizzeria to claim our metro award) and Paul’s Live From New York in McKinleyvile (which just snuck past Ferndale Pizza Co. to reign in our rural region).
Congrats, winner-types. May your crust never be soggy.

ORIGINAL POST: For those of you that voted in last week’s Humboldt Approved, thank you for your local beach expertise. But all that outdoor fun in the sun has us hungry mungry.
So, who’s in for pizza?
This week, we’re polling Lost Coast Outpost readers to find out who, in their highly coveted opinion, makes the county’s meanest pie. You decide what decides the “best.” Deep dish? Thin crust? Delivery in under 30 minutes? Cool box designs? Whatever. Let’s crown a local pizza king.
Here’s the voting caveat for this week: Here in Humboldt there are similarly named pizza joints in different towns with different menus and owners and what have you. So please be clear which place you mean when you nominate. Here’s a good format:
“(Insert establishment) in (insert city/town) burns the roof of my mouth best!”
OK, you got it? Superb! Now, here’s our weekly reminder of how voting works:
To vote, look through the comments of this Humboldt Approved poll. If someone has already nominated the answer you would give for that week’s category, click the upvote arrow. If you don’t see your desired Humboldt Approved answer nominate it in a comment for others to upvote. (Please be careful to not duplicate answers; redundant answers will be deleted and potential associated upvotes will be lost.) Feel free to make your case by replying to/cheering on the answer you love most, but again the number by the arrows is what counts.
Of course, you can vote for as many nominees as you deem worthy, but of course the more you do that the more watered down your initial vote becomes. That’s math.
We reserve the right to delete superfluous comments that make the voting/comment section hard to sift through. Please try not to get offended when your comment battle reply is deleted. We’re trying to do something here.
We are looking for two winners — one winner from the metropolises of Eureka and Arcata, and one from Humboldt’s smaller communities. Voting closes next Friday at noon and soon after a winner will be declared. (Tip: Sort comments by “BEST” to get a better grasp of how voting is trending.)
If you read the directions — for the love of God, thank you! — you may now proceed to the popularity contest. Good luck, Humboldt pizza peeps.
