UPDATE 5:40 P.M.: PG&E says there was some construction work going on in the area. A contractor was drilling at the construction site and accidently hit a gas line around 3 P.M.  Gas shot up. PG&E got on site and stopped the leak about 4:15 P.M. They are working to repair the line which supplies gas to three customers. They hope to have the line repaired this evening. Once repairs are made then crews have to restart the gas and relight the customers’ pilot lights. The spokesperson suggested that everyone remember to call 811 before you dig.

UPDATE 4:05 P.M.: Lt. Knight of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Dept. that neighbors of the leak are being asked to shelter in place but there is no fire and no report of injuries.  He adds that there are only a few homes in the neighborhood.  Four Humboldt Co. deputies are on scene as is Arcata Fire.

Reports of a gas line break in McKinleyville are coming in from several media outlets. Reportedly the break is in the 2400 block of Blackbird Ln.  LoCO has a call in to PG&E.
