UPDATE 7:33 A.M.: According to Southern Humboldt Unified School District employee, Bambi Henderson, the Whitethorn school has “been closed today as a precaution due to the manhunt for Shane Miller.”

###

As law enforcement searches for Shane Miller, the suspect in a Shasta County triple homicide, area schools close. According to teacher Margaret Fraser, three schools in the Mattole Unified School District will be closed tomorrow. Mattole Elementary, Triple Junction HS (Petrolia) and Honeydew Elementary /Honeydew Independent Study (Honeydew) will shut down.

The decision to close the schools was posted on the tiny rural community’s online bulletin board at 10:19 p.m. on Wednesday night. The ongoing search for the suspect in the alleged murder of his wife and two young daughters has community residents on edge.  Comments on the Lost Coast Outpost and on the bulletin board show an increasingly anxious community. One bulletin board post notes that the rumored location of the suspect’s vehicle, “puts him in the woods behind our house…so we are anxious for any further information.”

Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents to “shelter in place.”
