Earlier this week, the obscure Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) ruled that the nearly open One World Trade Center in New York — some people still call it the Freedom Tower — is officially the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Congrats on the distinction, NYC. Suck on that, Chicago.
It’s a proud end for a project that, you’ll recall, had some problems getting off the ground. Different visions, and such. Fortunately — or unfortunately, depending on your taste leanings — nobody asked Humboldt artist Duane Flatmo for his WTC1 design.
