From a press release issued by the District Attorney’s office:
I would like to thank everyone for the honor and the trust that you have placed in me. It has been an honor and a privilege to have worked with and for you.
I am proud of what we have accomplished. I am proud of where we are. I believe we have accomplished more than I ever thought we would be able to do over the last 11 years, and I am proud of you and thankful for all that you have done to accomplish that. I also believe that we have laid the framework for great progress in both the near and the distant future with the work we have done. Once again, thank you for that.
My commitment is and has been to this office and the people of the state of California. That commitment will never end. However, I have decided that I will not seek a fourth term, and I will not run for reelection. My oldest son was 4 years old when I was elected to office. He is graduating from high school this year. I have been here with you throughout his entire public school education. My daughter, who was a toddler, is now a freshman. My youngest, who had just been born, will begin middle school next year. I mention this because I have come to the conclusion that it is time for me to get back to my wife and children. They are growing up so fast.
I want to thank you all again. I want you to know that I will still be here until January of 2015. I want you to also know that I will always be grateful for all you have done and I will always be here for you. My commitment to you this office and the people of the state of California will never end.
Thank you.
