Arcata Police Department Facebook Release:

Yesterday the Arcata Police Department teamed with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department to begin the cleanup of the area commonly known as the Figas Log Pond. The area, which is located just south of the Windsong Neighborhood, has been used as a transient camp in recent years. A six man inmate crew from the Humboldt County Correctional Facility filled two 18 yard dumpsters with trash collected from the site.

This is the first phase of the cleanup project. The Arcata Police Department and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department are assisting the property owner with the removal of the illegal camps.  The illegal camps have led to an epic accumulation of trash and human waste. The camps and dumping are a public nuisance for residents and contribute to pollution of our local waterways. The dense vegetation and marshy conditions surrounding these camps is home to many local waterfowl and other wildlife.

To report illegal camping please call the Arcata Police Department at 707-822-2426.
