UPDATE, 4:13 p.m.: California Highway Patrol press release:

On December 12, 2014, at approximately 12:42 PM, the California Highway Patrol Humboldt Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a two-vehicle injury traffic collision on northbound US-101 at Indianola Cutoff. A 1990 Subaru, driven by Alia Brookshire of Blue Lake, was making a left turn from southbound US-101 to eastbound Indianola Cutoff. Abigail Lovelace of Arcata was seated in the right front passenger seat.  A 1996 Toyota, driven by Michael Enis of Eureka, was traveling northbound on US-101, south of Indianola Cutoff, in the #2 lane. Alan Krause II of Eureka was seated in the right front passenger seat. All occupants of both vehicles were properly restrained.  For reasons still under investigation, the right side of the 1990 Subaru was struck by the front end of the 1996 Toyota as it crossed the northbound traffic lanes of US-101. Ms. Brookshire, Ms. Lovelace, and Mr. Krause were injured during the collision. Ms. Lovelace was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital in Eureka for additional care. DUI was determined not to be a factor in this collision.

Original Post: LoCO‘s CHPWatch indicates that an accident recently occurred on Highway 101 in the safety corridor near the Indianola Cutoff. Details are scant at this time — a white station wagon is said to have collided with a blue car — but we will update this post when we know more. In the meantime, be aware that traffic will likely be slowed in the area.
