Intrepid reporter Allie Hostler, the editor-in-chief over at the Two Rivers Tribune, posted these amazing photos earlier today along with the heart-wrenching tale of a baby bear. The curious cub, who appears to have been orphaned, found its way onto Hoopa High School’s baseball diamond and decided to try its paw at scaling chain link.

“After getting a feel for how to maneuver on chain link, the cub decided to scale back down the fence,” Hostler reports. “A team of Forestry wildlife technicians were waiting below with a live trap.”
Hoopa Valley Tribal Forestry wildlife biologist Mark Higley reportedly told the TRT that this “first-year cub” will likely need motherly care for another nine months or so. “Higley said he’ll make ‘some calls’ to see where to take the cub, adding that release into the wild could mean a miserable death for the orphaned cub,” the TRT reports.
Here’s hoping the cub gets reunited with its mama.
