Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department press release:

The Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire Saturday evening at 9:29 p.m. on Fortuna Boulevard.

Arcata P.D. officers, assisting Fortuna P.D. with the “Avoid the Eight DUI Task Force,” were first to arrive on scene and assisted the single occupant out of the residence.

A quick search of the residence by first arriving fire crews confirmed no additional occupants. The fire, which was extending through the attic from the wood stove chimney area, was quickly brought under control.

Three Fortuna engines, one rescue and one Cal Fire mutual aid engine as well as City Ambulance responded to the fire while Fortuna P.D. handled traffic control on the Boulevard.

The attic and roof suffered fire damage while the remainder of the residence received moderate smoke and water damage. Cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
