Today, about 12:15 p.m., Eureka Police Department received a report that a white male adult had, according to dispatch, “shot several gunshots from a black handgun” near 5th and T Street. Officers responded and the scanner was briefly Code 33—emergency traffic only.

The man was detained about 12:20 p.m. on T Street. Scanner traffic indicates that the initial report may have been in error and instead, according to dispatch, the reporting party said the man had been “waving the firearm in the air.” The Outpost has a request for more information in to EPD.
