Within the last few minutes, Calfire has ordered up an arsenal to attack a new wildfire that has arisen just south of Weitchpec.
An air tanker, a helicopter and a hotshot crew have been ordered to the fire, which dispatchers have further identified as being near mile marker 21 on Highway 96, an area known as “Deerhorn” on the northern edge of the Hoopa Valley Reservation. They’re provisionally calling it the “Post 21 Incident.”
Scanner traffic indicates the the fire is currently five acres in size, and burning at a low rate of speed. Two engines are currently putting in hose at the bottom of the fire. Caltrans is providing traffic control at the site.
