UPDATE, 1:20 p.m.: The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office says:

At about 11:45 a.m. today Search and Rescue members located the 16 year missing boy near the entrance to the Bluff Creek Trail Head. The juvenile did not need any medical treatment and was reunited with his mother.

On 03-09-2015 at 9:00 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call from concerned mother, regarding her 16 year old son, who was missing. The mother reported to the Sheriff’s Office on 03-08-2015 at about 9:00 a.m. she dropped off her son at the Bluff Creek Trail head, which is located off Highway 96 between Weitchpec and Orleans. The mother and her son live in Orleans.

The mother stated her son was planning a hiking and camping trip from the trail head with a friend. The mother said his friend was going to arrive later in the day. Her son said he was going to fish near the trail head until his friend joined him. In the early afternoon the friend called and stated he was unable to go on the camping trip and was not going to join her son.

The mother and friends went back to the trail head and tried to locate her son, but were unsuccessful. According to the mother her son is unfamiliar with the trails in this area.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office started a search and rescue at 6:00 a.m. this morning on the Bluff Creek Trail to attempt to locate the missing 16 year old boy.
