Evelyn Gabbert, a 20+ year resident of Eureka, passed away peacefully on Oct. 25, 2015.

Evelyn Gabbert was a Christmas baby, born in Merced, Calif., on Dec. 25, 1928, and a New Year’s Bride, marrying her beloved husband Bill on Dec. 31, 1947.

Evelyn was a true artist. She loved to craft, but was also a very talented painter. She created many paintings, blankets, ceramics and stained glass. Her work was beautiful, something she would only reluctantly acknowledge. When she wasn’t creating, she was playing BINGO. She loved to go up to the casinos and play all night. Her family would tease her about her wild BINGO nights.

Evelyn was most proud of her family. Evelyn and Bill raised three daughters, and went on to raise four of their grandchildren as well. She could often be heard boasting to her nurses that she had 30 Great-Grandchildren. She loved to sneak M&M’s to her “little stinkers.”

Evelyn is preceded in death by her busband Bill, her daughter Judy, and her son-in-law Steven. She is survived by her daughter Connie, son-in-law Richard, daughter Billie Jean, grandchildren Coppie, Tracie, Dreaux, Courtney, Tiffany, Kristoffer, Shaun, Dorlyn, John, Gerilyn, and Bill.

At her request, no memorial will be held. Evelyn’s family would like to thank Nick, and the staff of Hospice of Humboldt for their care this past year. You brought her so much comfort. They would also like to thank the nurses and residents of Granada for filling her final month with fun and laughter. It brought her family so much joy to see her play Bingo again.
