An appliance fire in the basement of Jay Willard Gymnasium drew multiple Humboldt Bay Fire engines to Eureka High a few minutes ago. 

Firefighters were called after someone saw smoke emerging from the basement of the the gym. The first units on scene quickly found the source of the problem: A dryer that, judging by the photographs below, may have been working on some mop heads.The gymnasium was evacuated, the fire was extinguished and fans were set to air out the smoke.

Sean Robertson of Humboldt Bay Fire told the Outpost on scene that no students were impacted.

Fortuna High crushed the Eureka High Loggers basketball team at home last night, 63-20. Like their gymnasium, the Loggers are still standing.
