Beverly Jean James (Moorehead) a Tolowa Tribal elder died on January 31, 2016, at the age of 83, at home with her family.

Beverly was born November 20, 1932 in Smith River, where she was raised on the Smith River Rancheria.

Beverly worked in the fisheries, lily bulb farms, and potato fields. Hard work is no stranger to Beverly. She loved life and everybody in it. Always smiling and making others smile. Beverly’s joy, love, and laughter has formed special memories for all who knew her. Truly a one-of-a-kind lady that whether she’s an aunt , sister, niece, wife, grandmother, or mother, she’s defiinately our world. Safe journey, gram. You were right – once you lose your mom, you lose your whole world.

Beverly is proceeded in death her father Theodore Moorehead, and Mother Isabell Moorehead (Whipple), her children Pete Sherman, Robert Sherman Dennis Sherman Sr, Shirley Sherman, Diane Sherman, and Donna Sherman, her grandchildren, Stacy Lynn Gorman, and Shannon Gorman, and her husbands, Cecil Sherman Sr (Smokey) and Melvin James (Red).

Beverly is survived by her brothers, Theodore Moorehead, and Richard Moorehead (Butch), her children Darrell Sherman (Joe), Cecil Sherman Jr (Sharky), Susie Wilson, and Douglas James, her grandchildren , Debra Sherman, Brenda Sherman, Bonnie Sherman, Dennis Sherman Jr, Jason Sherman, Seri Sherman, Damon Sherman, Darrell Sherman, Reggie Sherman, Lisa Rakestraw (Sherman), Jesse Sherman, Sarah Lopez (Sherman) and Jason Levi Sherman, Alberta, Amber, Donna, Tina, Tammy, and Bobbi Wilson, Aaron Bennett, Corey Cole, Teresa McGinnis (James), Angela King, Isabella James, and Angela James, 42 great grand children, 14 great great grand children and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Beverly’s memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. at Goble’s Mortuary. Fortuna, on Thursday, Feb. 4. Following the services Beverly, will be laid to rest in the family plot at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka. Everyone is invited to join us at the Tishnon Community Center Family potluck immediately following Beverly’s journey home.
