Since nobody was hurt, we’d like to put a nice bow on this story in the form of this photo of a rainbow that appeared in the aftermath of the fire:

UPDATE, 3:50 p.m.

The fire was caused by a hash lab in the apartment, according to Humboldt Bay Fire Battalion Chief Sean Robertson. Many butane cylinders and cannabis leaves were found at the scene of the blaze, which has now been extinguished. The damage was confined to one apartment, fire officials say, and no one was injured.

The Eureka Police Department was called, and an investigation is underway.  Robertson said the tenant may have been on the scene when emergency personnel arrived, but that has not been confirmed.

B and C streets remain closed between 7th and Washington.

With a light rain falling, Humboldt Bay Fire responded to a report of smoke emerging from an apartment complex on the 800 block of B Street in Eureka this afternoon. Firefighters arrived to find heavy brown smoke and flames billowing from an upstairs bedroom window.

The Outpost’s Andrew Goff is on the scene and sent the photos in this post showing large flames emerging from the apartment window. At least three engines responded to fight the blaze, which appeared to be primarily located on the second floor of the two-story complex.

A woman from an adjacent apartment showed up and asked firefighters if her cat was OK, Goff reports. She was assured that it was.

Another neighbor said the tenant in that particular apartment moved out in within the last few months.
