Arcata Fire District:

E8217 out of the McKinleyville Fire Station responded to a debris fire on the 1900 Block of Ocean Ave. late last night. Once at scene, the 2-person Engine Company observed that the debris pile was actually a large burned-down plastic shed with fire spreading to the vegetation and nearby fence. Thankfully, residents had knocked the fire down with their fire extinguishers and a garden hose.

After investigating the fire, it was determined that a barbecue grill, which was used earlier in the night, was placed into the shed while still hot. This caused combustible materials inside of the shed to ignite.

Arcata Fire District wants to remind you to let your barbecue coals completely cool before discarding them into a metal container and to NOT place warm grills next to and/or inside of a structure.
