A large pod of whales was spotted from Patrick’s Point State Park on Friday.

Trinidad business owner Jason Self told the Outpost that he spotted 30 to 40 whales with calves swimming along the coast during a photo shoot at Wedding Rock around 3 p.m.

“The migration is peaking now so lots of them are moving through,” Self said. “I started seeing the whales come in really close so I couldn’t resist shooting them.”

Self, who gives kayak tours around Trinidad, said he’s seen large pods of whales in the area before.

“I’m on the water all the time so I see them all … It seems to be not as easy for land lubbers who aren’t as obsessed as me,” Self said. “They’ve been a little harder to spot in Trinidad this year versus years past.”
