The Office of California Governor Jerry Brown released the following statement this afternoon in response to this morning’s shooting at a Caltrans work yard in Rio Dell:

The tragic death of this dedicated public servant is a shock to the entire Caltrans family. Anne and I send our deepest sympathies to Annette’s family, friends and her colleagues during this difficult time.”

Annette Brooks, 61, of Carlotta, was allegedly shot and killed today by another Caltrans employee. The shooter later died of a self-inflicted injury. The incident is under investigation by law enforcement.

Brooks is the 187th Caltrans employee to lose her life on the job.

In honor of Brooks, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
