Lost Coast Outpost reader Abigale Camacho wrote this morning to tell us that the big sinkhole on Eel River Drive between Fernbridge and Loleta has opened up again, and this time it swallowed her car.

Camacho says she was driving at about 6 a.m. this morning, when she saw a pothole in the roadway. She swerved around it, at which point the ground gave way beneath her. She says her neck and hip were hurt in the crash, and that she’s going to go to the hospital now. It’s not as bad as it could have been, though, she said.

“I’m just glad it was me and not a family or school bus,” Camacho told us.

According to dispatch logs, the California Highway Patrol got word of the crash at about a quarter after six this morning, and ordered a tow truck. The county roads department confirms that Eel River Drive is currently closed.
