Valentine’s Day is for falling in love.

Around 10 a.m. this morning a delivery truck made light contact with a tree near the intersection of Second and E streets in Eureka sending it “timber”-ing to the street below. No buildings or other vehicles were struck. No one was injured.

Numerous folk who work in Old Town came out of their businesses and gathered ‘round to ponder gravity and note how soft and spongy the base of the tree was.

“It would have just taken one fat kid climbing that thing to bring it down,” one person remarked.

Farewell, tree.
