Dolores Weatherbee was born on October 21, 1929 in Arcata to John and Goldie Santos and passed away at the age of 88 on April 26, 2018 at her son and grandson’s home in Eureka. Though we are saddened at her passing, we are glad that she is now free of pain.

Dolores worked many, many years (too many to count) keeping the Hostelry in Samoa clean, planning dinners and parties there. Even raising five children of her own, her house was always filled with children that she was babysitting. She was known as one of the “Samoa Moms”  who watched over the children of Samoa to make sure they were safe and did not get into trouble. If we were one of the ones in trouble by the time we got home it was already known to our Mom via the Samoa Moms.

She was active in PTA and being a room mother when her children were in grammar school. Many times she could be found sitting in the rain watching her sons playing football or track and field, even going from one baseball game to another so she could watch all her sons play. She was a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West and S.P.R.S.I./Luso.

Dolores was preceded in death by her father and step-mother John and Rosa Santos, mother and step-father Goldie and Al McDermott, sister Mary and her son Mark.

Dolores is survived by children Peggy, Ed, Bob (Bev), and Doug, nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren ( with another on the way), her “Adopted Family” John, Patty and Allie, whom she regarded as family and were there when she needed them.

A special thank you to Hospice of Humboldt for their care, compassion and concern for Mom during her last month which allowed her to stay at home. They are truly Angels. God bless each and every one of you.

We could not have asked for a better mom. Forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Samoa Women’s Club.
