Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office release: 

 

On Thursday, August 22, at approximately 1 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team responded to Knox Cove Dr. in McKinleyville for a report of a suspected explosive device that had been found in a storage unit.

The device was determined to be a World War II-era stick grenade. EOD technicians safely transported the grenade to a safe location and disabled it.

The Sheriff’s EOD team is on-call 24 hours a day and covers much of northwest California. If you see a suspected explosive device, call 9-1-1.
